230-volt track lighting has been proving its worth for years, even in private homes. It is robust, simple in construction, and there is a wide range of fixtures available for it. Additionally, a second family has emerged: 48V track lighting. This operates on low voltage, which allows for much sleeker designs for tracks and fixtures. The Linial by Lucide Premium is one of the most striking examples of this—a track barely two centimeters wide, fixtures that resemble jewelry more than technology, and control via your smartphone.
What exactly is the Linial?
The Linial is a modular track system from Lucide's Premium line. You build it however you like: one or two-meter tracks, connected in a straight line or joined with an L-, T-, or X-connector. With it, you can design lighting that matches the demands of your space—a single line, a corner, a T-junction, or a full crossroad above the central gathering point.
The system isn't limited to the ceiling. With a 90° connector, you can extend the track from the ceiling edge to the wall, or vice versa, from the wall to the ceiling. This single movement transforms a row of spotlights into one continuous line that frames the room, and it allows light to reach places where a ceiling spot cannot: against a wall with art, along a cabinet wall, or above a countertop.
You then click the fixtures you need onto this track: track spots in various sizes and beam angles, pendant lights for above an island or table, and accessories such as end caps and junction boxes.
The entire system operates on 48-volt low voltage. One central driver powers the entire track; the fixture itself no longer carries mains voltage.
What makes 48 volts different
More refined fixtures
With 230 volts, there must be space in or near each fixture for control gear, insulation, and safety distances. With 48 volts, this work is done centrally, in a single driver at the beginning of the installation. What remains in the fixture is little more than the light source and optics—and that gives designers a creative freedom they otherwise wouldn't have.
You can immediately see it in the track itself: 19 mm wide and 18 mm high. Against a white ceiling, it's little more than a fine line. The spots that click onto it follow the same logic: sleek, minimalist, and with a housing that is barely noticeable.
An installation that grows with you
Moving fixtures is possible with any track system—that in itself is nothing new. What 48 volts adds is that you can do it yourself without hesitation. There is no mains voltage on the track, so adding a spot or moving it a bit feels more like rearranging a cabinet than doing electrical work.
And that weighs heavily in the long run. The dining table moves, the kitchen layout changes, a painting is hung on the wall—each time, you simply move the light with it. Your lighting plan isn't set in stone the day the electrician closes the door behind them.
Zigbee, app, or just your wall switch
The Linial is a smart system, and that's more than just a selling point. Control is via the Zigbee protocol (802.15.4), for which you need two components: the intelligent driver and the Smart Gateway. The system does not work without both.
Once connected, you link the Linial to the smart home platform you already use. Lucide mentions, among others, Tuya Smart, Philips Hue, WOOX, and SmartLife. From that moment on, you control each fixture individually: dimming, grouping, saving light scenes, and automatically switching them based on time or presence.
But you are not obliged to work with an app. Those who prefer not to, use the Smart Gateway only for one-time programming: you determine which fixtures switch together and how brightly they illuminate. After that, your regular wall switch takes over again—and that can also be a dimmable switch. In principle, you no longer need the application after that.
What you lose in that case is per-fixture control. Controlling each spot individually or switching between scenes remains something that happens via the app.
In between, there's a third option: Lucide Premium offers wall switches on which you can program four different zones. With a single control point on the wall, you can then switch, for example, the work area, the dining table, the wall spots, and an ambient setting—without needing your phone.
Two finishes, two very different interiors
The Linial comes in two colors, and these are not arbitrary variations of black and white. They are two deliberate choices, each heading in a different direction.
Champagne is warm and soft in tone, with a muted sheen that evokes brass rather than gold. In a rural or classic interior—natural stone, oak, warm lime tones—the track blends seamlessly into the whole rather than clashing with it. This finish also works exceptionally well above a kitchen island in a country-style kitchen.
Matte black chrome takes the opposite approach: sleek, cool, and graphic. Against a white or concrete-look ceiling, the track becomes a deliberate line in the room, precisely what you want in a modern or industrial interior. If you combine it with black carpentry or dark kitchen cabinets, it blends in seamlessly.
Both finishes are carried throughout the entire range—tracks, connectors, spots, and pendant lamps—ensuring your installation remains a cohesive unit.
What does an installation consist of?
To assemble a functioning Linial setup, you need:
- Track — in lengths of 1 or 2 meters, with straight, L-, T-, and X-connectors, 90° connectors for transitioning from ceiling to wall, and flexible connectors for non-right angles.
- Driver — the central power supply for the system.
- Smart Gateway — necessary for programming the system, and for operating it via app or smart home afterwards.
- Fixtures — track spots in various designs, or pendant lamps for above a table or island.
- Finishing — end caps, cover plates, junction boxes, and accessories.
The track is suitable for surface mounting on the ceiling, for pendant mounting, and for wall mounting. The execution is IP20, meaning it is intended for dry indoor spaces. Lucide provides a five-year warranty on the system.

Is 48 volts always the best choice?
Not necessarily, and it's fairer to say that upfront. A classic 230-volt track system remains an excellent solution, even in a home. It's simpler to set up, you don't need a driver or gateway for it, and you control it with the switch or dimmer you already have. Furthermore, the range of fixtures is enormous, in all price categories.
You choose a 48V system for different reasons: the appearance of the track and fixtures, and the ability to control each fixture individually. On the other hand, you need a driver and a gateway, and with low voltage, you have to consider the maximum track length per power supply.

Not available everywhere
Lucide's Premium line is deliberately distributed selectively. Only a chosen number of distributors are allowed to offer it, which means you won't find the Linial in every webshop or DIY store. The limited distribution of the range has a reason. A 48V system is more technical than a classic fixture: it involves a driver, a gateway, a division into zones, and a setup that must be correct down to the connector. Whoever sells it must also be able to explain it.

- Along a wall with art or bookshelves, where you precisely aim the beams and can easily reposition them later—possibly with a track that extends from the ceiling down the wall.
- In a practice or showroom, where a sleek linear design on the ceiling is part of the overall aesthetic.

By operating on 48 volts, Lucide was able to reduce the track to a fine line and the fixtures to their essence, and by incorporating Zigbee, this refined whole remains fully controllable from your phone.
